KAN-Accredited Competency Certification under SNI ISO/IEC 17024

Your team already holds certificates, but the corporate client or the tender committee is asking something else: who audits the body that issued them.

For managerial roles, the question that decides the outcome is usually not "is the certificate recognised by the state", but "is the issuing body itself examined by an independent party". Accreditation by Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN), Indonesia’s national accreditation body, answers that — and the answer is a document you can forward to the auditor as it stands — not a verbal explanation you have to repeat at every audit.

For companies, state-owned enterprises, and government institutions. Reviewing the requirement and mapping the schemes in the first stage is free of charge.

The accreditation body that assesses personnel certification bodies

Komite Akreditasi Nasional

Komite Akreditasi Nasional accredits personnel certification bodies against SNI ISO/IEC 17024. RTI works on the training and participant preparation side — assessment and certificate issuance are carried out by the certification body, and that separation is required by the standard itself.

Which objection are you dealing with?

These four are what most often bring a company to ask about the KAN route. All of them end at the same point: whoever is asking for evidence no longer accepts a statement, they want a document they can check themselves.

A corporate client questions your team’s certificates because the issuing body cannot show its accreditation.

If left unresolved

The supplier audit records it as an open finding, and the remedy usually offered is to recertify through a different body — a second cost for competency your employees already hold.

What we do about it

We check the body’s accreditation status and its scope before the programme is scheduled, then attach copies to the quotation so you can forward them to the auditor without having to request them again.

The tender document says "accredited certification body", and it is unclear whether the certificates your team holds satisfy that.

If left unresolved

The committee evaluates the file as submitted. If the issuing body’s accreditation cannot be evidenced at evaluation, the certificate counts as non-compliant — and the administrative stage leaves no room to explain.

What we do about it

We read the exact wording of the requirement, translate it into the accreditation scope it refers to, and say plainly if the certificates you already hold are in fact sufficient.

The person being asked to prove competency is a manager-level owner of the process, not a field operator.

If left unresolved

Most certification programmes target the operator level. When an auditor asks about the competency of the people making the decisions — quality manager, OSH manager, project manager — the documents on file do not answer the question.

What we do about it

The schemes we facilitate under SNI ISO/IEC 17024 are built for managerial level, and the preparation training uses cases from your own operations rather than generic case studies.

The training budget has been spent, but what was issued turned out to be a training certificate — not a competency certificate.

If left unresolved

A training certificate only states that someone attended. In front of a management system auditor or a tender committee it closes no question at all, and the budget cannot be recovered.

What we do about it

From the quotation onwards we state which document will be issued, who issues it, and on what basis. The separation between the party that trains and the party that assesses is not our preference — it is what this standard requires.

What is KAN accreditation, and how does it differ from the certificate itself?

Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) is Indonesia’s national accreditation body, operating within the national standardisation and conformity assessment system. KAN does not assess workers and does not issue certificates to them. What KAN evaluates is the body: whether a personnel certification body is run in accordance with SNI ISO/IEC 17024 — covering impartiality, how schemes are developed, assessor qualifications, examination material security, and the appeals mechanism available to candidates who object.

KAN accreditation therefore answers a different doubt from a BNSP licence. A licence answers "recognised by the state". Accreditation answers "examined by an independent third party". In tenders and corporate client audits, the second question usually comes first. PT Rindu Tenang Indonesia runs the training and participant preparation, while assessment and certificate issuance are carried out by the accredited certification body — a separation the standard itself requires.

Found your team’s scheme group?

Tell us the roles along with the exact wording of the requirement you received from the client, auditor, or tender document. We check the accreditation scope of the matching body, then send a quotation together with a copy of the accreditation evidence.

What happens between the request and the certificate?

Stage What we do What you get

2 — Quotation & syllabus Drafting the preparation training plan with cases from your own operations, together with itemised costs. A written quotation and a syllabus outline to review.
3 — Scheduling with the body Setting assessment dates, checking participants’ evidence and portfolios, and preparing the venue. A delivery schedule agreed by both sides.
4 — Delivery & reporting Preparation training, assessment by the certification body’s assessors, then certificate issuance and post-programme evaluation. Participants’ certificates plus an evaluation report with the before-and-after comparison.

Trusted by Strategic Partners

Managerial certification needs surface most often in organisations that are audited routinely — state-owned enterprises, banks, port operators, plantations, and oversight institutions. PT Rindu Tenang Indonesia is used to working in that environment, including supplying the administrative paperwork procurement departments ask for.

In Partnership with Leading Destinations

Managerial programmes usually draw participants from several units and locations, so they run away from the office more often than in-house. PT Rindu Tenang Indonesia works with hotels, resorts, and convention centres across North Sumatra — from Medan and Sibolangit to Samosir — so that classrooms, accommodation, and catering are handled in a single arrangement.

Frequently asked questions about KAN accreditation

What is the difference between BNSP certification and KAN-accredited certification? +

Both evaluate the body rather than the candidate, but from different angles. BNSP licenses Professional Certification Bodies under national manpower provisions. KAN accredits personnel certification bodies against SNI ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard governing how a certification body must be run — from impartiality and assessor competency through to complaint handling. A single body can hold both at once, and that is what large companies most often ask for.

What is SNI ISO/IEC 17024? +

SNI ISO/IEC 17024 sets out the general requirements for bodies operating certification of persons. It is not about examination content but about how the body is governed: separation between the party that trains and the party that assesses, how schemes are developed and reviewed, assessor qualifications, examination material security, and the appeals mechanism. KAN accreditation is the statement that a body has been audited and meets that standard.

When should a company choose the KAN route rather than BNSP alone? +

When the party asking for evidence is not a labour inspector but a corporate client, a tender committee, or a management system auditor. In those situations the question is not "is it recognised by the state" but "is the issuing body audited by an independent third party". KAN accreditation answers that. For meeting specific role obligations, the BNSP route remains what is asked for.

Is the certificate valid abroad? +

KAN accreditation opens the way, but cross-border recognition runs through the IAF multilateral recognition arrangement. Its coverage depends on the scope of the arrangement applying to that type of certification. PT Rindu Tenang Indonesia covers this on a separate page so that companies genuinely targeting international recognition can check it first.

How long is the certificate valid? +

Validity follows each certification scheme, generally three years, with surveillance and recertification mechanisms also defined within the scheme. Because schemes under SNI ISO/IEC 17024 must be reviewed periodically, these provisions can change and are always confirmed with the issuing body before a programme is scheduled.

Can the training material be tailored to our company? +

The competency units assessed follow the standard scheme and cannot be altered — that separation is precisely what SNI ISO/IEC 17024 protects. What is tailored are the case studies, practice data, and terminology used during preparation training, so that participants work through situations they actually encounter.

Who conducts the assessment, and may the trainer also be the assessor? +

No. SNI ISO/IEC 17024 requires separation between training activities and certification activities so that the judgement stays impartial. PT Rindu Tenang Indonesia works on the training and preparation side, while the competency assessment is carried out by assessors from the certification body. That separation is exactly what gives the certificate its standing with auditors.

What is the minimum cohort size? +

It follows the scheme’s provisions and the assessor ratio in that field. The exact figure is confirmed with the quotation, once the roles and prospective participant numbers are known.

Can RTI supply the documents our procurement process requires? +

Yes. PT Rindu Tenang Indonesia is an incorporated legal entity with complete corporate documentation, and is used to supplying the administrative paperwork requested by company and government procurement departments.
