Improvement Action Plan deliverable

Modern manufacturing production line with automated machinery, conveyor, and electrical panel

Background

From waste sorting to measurable loss reduction

Industrial operations require proper waste handling as well as the ability to measure, analyze, and improve energy and waste performance over time.

This program builds on basic waste classification, sorting, and handling. The focus shifts to analyzing waste sources, material loss, energy loss, handling costs, and practical improvement opportunities.

Learning format

Theory, discussion, case studies, simple data analysis, simulation, and drafting an Improvement Action Plan.

For the certified Energy Manager track, see the Energy Management certification page.

After two days, participants are able to

  1. Production Waste

    1. Analyze waste generation sources across production processes.

  2. Production Waste

    2. Perform waste flow and process mapping.

  3. Production Waste

    3. Identify material loss, scrap, reject, and production waste.

  4. Production Waste

    4. Analyze waste characteristics and handling risks.

  5. Production Waste

    5. Determine waste minimization and resource efficiency strategies.

  6. Production Waste

    6. Identify the impact of waste on operating costs.

  7. Production Waste

    7. Conduct root cause analysis on waste issues.

  8. Energy

    8. Identify sources of energy consumption and waste.

  9. Energy

    9. Analyze energy performance and energy loss.

  10. Energy

    10. Identify opportunities for energy savings.

  11. Measurable Improvement

    11. Develop KPIs for energy and waste monitoring.

  12. Measurable Improvement

    12. Formulate a measurable improvement program and action plan.

Energy & Waste Improvement Project

Participants complete a five-step practical improvement project.

Practice

  1. Identify

Define the energy or waste problem.

  2. Measure

Collect basic data on waste volume or energy consumption.

  3. Analyze

Analyze root causes with 5 Why, Fishbone, or Pareto.

  4. Improve

    Determine solutions and potential savings.

  5. Control

    Define KPIs and monitoring procedures.
